You couldn’t set foot in a shop last month without someone chewing your ear about the carrier bag charge. It seemed that everybody had an opinion about the government’s decision to impose a charge of 5p for plastic carrier bags- and it has already started to change the way we do our shopping.
Whatever your opinion on the new law, one undeniably positive consequence is the decision by many local businesses to donate part of the money generated by bag sales to local charities and community groups.
The Chatterbox Project was lucky enough to be nominated by the wonderful ladies of North City Community Action Group- a collective of volunteers from the Moston area who use social media to encourage communication between residents, and to create positive changes in their community. Leonie Painter and Jacqui Hodgkin nominated Chatterbox to be ‘Charity of the Month’ for the One-Stop on Moston Lane. This means that Chatterbox will receive a share of the money generated by carrier bag purchases for the whole month of November.
So, on behalf of everybody at Chatterbox, a big thank you to everyone at North City Community Action Group, and of course to One-Stop. Your generosity is much appreciated.
